Come down to the Third Place Commons this weekend and dance off some of those holiday sweets.
On Friday night, Swingnuts Jazz plays upbeat original and classic jazz, high-spirited swing, and Brazilian rhythms, all for fun, listening, and dancing. Singer/songwriter Peggy Wendel adds vaudevillian flair, and guitarist Pete Smith spices ’em up, gypsy-style. Philip Nakano adds a palette of flavors on tenor and soprano sax, flute, and percussion, Mark Dodge provides ‘le fond’ on bass, all while Andy Carr stirs and swings like crazy on piano. The band performs as a quartet or quintet at concerts, festivals, clubs, parties, restaurants, and whenever possible, in front of a good dance floor. Swingnuts Jazz’ sound systems can serve up a full menu for just a few friends, or a few hundred. Great swingin’ jazzy fun for all.
And Saturday evening Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band is a Dixieland jazz band from Bellevue. The group has been around since its founding in 1971 by Bert Barr. Their first album, Your Requests was released in 1985, and the band has since released at least fifteen albums. The last album, Chattanooga Stomp was recorded in 2007.
