Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band “Dixieland Jazz” – Friday August 8 @ 7:30
As a performing arts group, the MoodSwings Jazz Band aims to inspire a love of jazz to the members of the community by cultivating a supportive environment for female musicians of all ages to develop skills in the jazz music genre and providing performances for diverse audiences to preserve and increase appreciation of this American legacy art form
In 2005 six female musicians found each other through their love of jazz (and CraigsList) with the goal of creating a welcoming and nurturing environment to grow and share their passion. Soon… the MoodSwings were born!
In the years since, the group developed into a full big band, rehearsing weekly, adding hundreds of tunes to their repertoire. Since 2010, under the musical direction of Marissa Tanimura, the MoodSwings have performed regularly at Northwest venues – always adhering to the original core values: musicianship, encouragement and friendship.
Started in 1971 by Bert Barr, Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band has performed continuously since that time now appearing at over 25 festivals and concerts annually throughout the United Stated and abroad. Major festivals include The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, Sun Valley Swing & Dixie, The Great Connecticut Jazz Festival, San Diego Jazz Festival, Pismo Beach Jazz and America’s Festival in Lacey, WA held over the 4th of July weekend. The full seven piece band has a worldwide reputation having performed in Japan, Holland, Belgium, Germany and about 15 international cruises to date.
Weekend music in the Commons is always free and begins promptly at 7:30pm
